Kell Brook Could Fight Both Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2015, Claims Eddie Hearn
Kell Brook could meet Amir Khan in a summer showdown next year before a possible bout with welterweight king Floyd Mayweather Jr, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.
Brook claimed the IBF title after overcoming Shawn Porter via a split decision in California on Saturday to thrust himself into contention for fights with the division's biggest names.
After his superb stateside victory the Sheffield-born fighter insisted five-weight world champion Mayweather was now firmly in his reckoning, while suggesting long-term adversary Khan would have to "get in line".
Matchroom's Hearn has since confirmed Brook will make his first title defence in his hometown on 6 December, on the same night Khan is in action against an unnamed opponent - with Devon Alexander and Roberto Guerrero two names in the frame - for a fight likely to be held in America.
And the promoter firmly believes Brook will be in line to face Mayweather sooner or later, possibly following an all-British clash with Khan that Hearn believes will rival the scale of Carl Froch v George Groves II.
"Mayweather? Not next, but definitely in the future," Hearn told BBC Radio Sheffield. "Everyone in the division wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. I don't believe Shaun Porter would have got the shot this year (had he beaten Brook) but I think perhaps another defence from Porter would have definitely put him in the frame and victory over Kell would have definitely put him in the frame.
"In that respect, you have to say Kell is in the frame to fight Mayweather. There are three champions in the welterweight division, Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Kell Brook. He (Mayweather) is a 2015 target and it's the target of everyone in the division but when you hold a world title you are certainly more likely to face him than if you wouldn't have one."
On the subject of a potential clash between Brook and Khan, Hearn noted next summer could see the two Brits collide in an outdoor venue.
"Khan is scheduled to fight on December 6 and I have just booked the Sheffield arena for December 6. We need to start talking with Khan's team and camp. It would be the same sort of Froch v Groves. I do feel like it's a spring/summer event than November/ December event in an outdoor arena and I am sure the talks with begin this week."
