Kid Cali dead: LA rapper fatally shot at pool party, Chris Brown and Snoop Dogg pay tribute
Two other men were hit in the incident but are expected to survive.
A popular rapper from Los Angeles was shot and killed at a pool party held in a multi-million dollar mansion on Saturday night (22 August). Police said two other men were shot in the incident but are expected to survive.
Rapper Kid Cali, real name Justin Lishey, was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The shooter ran out of the party and into the surrounding area, according to police. A description has not yet been released.
Friends of Lishey told ABC 11 that they could not understand why anyone would want to shoot him. "He's a great person, he has a good heart and he's going to be missed," said closed friend Dorthea DeVilla, "He's going to be missed, not just by me, but by everybody."
DeVilla also told the news station that friends had seen Lishey involved in an altercation at some point during the evening. More than 100 people were at the party, which was advertised on social media. Attendees were expected to pay an entrance fee.
Tributes to the musician, believed to be 30 years old, came in from a number of well known stars. Singer, Chris Brown, tweeted "RIP KID CALI".
Snoop Dogg shared a picture of the rapper on Instagram, captioning it with "rest well young g".
