Overview
KXIP started their seventh IPL season on a high having registered victories in their opening to matches. In their first game, they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets after chasing the target of 206 runs set by MS Dhoni's side last Friday.
Glenn Maxwell chipped in a Man of the Match performance against CSK and the Australian repeated his feat by helping the Mohali based outfit defeat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their second game on Sunday.
The Royals smashed 191 runs in 20 overs after they were put to bat by the Kings' skipper George Bailey. Beginning the chase, KXIP lost their first two wickets having managed just 10 runs on the scoreboard.
Then, Cheteshwar Pujara and Maxwell combined to add a partnership of 116 runs with the latter smashing 89 runs from 45 balls.
Following Maxwell's dismissal, KXIP remained unfazed and David Miller took on from where the Australian left. The South African scored 51 runs from 19 balls, which included six sixes while Pujara remained unbeaten alongside him scoring 40 runs to help Sanjay Bangar's side maintain their 100% record.
Meanwhile, SRH have played only one match so far and that ended in a defeat against RR. The Hyderabad based outfit were restricted to just 133 runs in 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner were their highest scorers with 37 and 32 runs respectively.
However, their bowlers were helpless in preventing the Paddy Upton's side from successfully completing the chase with four wickets and three balls to spare. Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra both took two wickets each while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma added one wicket each to their names.
KXIP are currently second in the points table with four points while SRH are second from bottom with zero. A win for the former will leapfrog them above current leaders Royal Challengers Bangalore.
