Las Vegas: Dramatic footage of British Airways Boeing 777 on fire at airport [Video]
Dramatic video footage has been released showing the moment the British Airways Boeing 777 plane caught fire on the runway at Las Vegas Airport.
In the amateur footage, posted on YouTube, huge orange flames can be seen coming out of the side of the aircraft along with thick plumes of back smoke.
Thirteen people were reportedly injured after the London-bound aeroplane caught fire at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas on 8 September. The left engine of British Airways flight 2276, which was flying to Gatwick Airport, caught fire as it prepared to take off, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.
According to Fox News, firefighters quickly covered the jet in fire retardant as a plume of black smoke emerged from the plane. McCarran International Airport spokesman Chris Jones told reporters that all 159 passengers and 13 crew members had disembarked the plane.
The incident happened shortly after 4pm local time (7pm EST/12am BST), CNN reported. British Airways said in a statement that the aircraft "experienced a technical issue as it was preparing for take-off".
