Leicester House Fire: Four Dead in Wood Hill Blaze

Fire fighters tackling a blaze at a house in Leicester have recovered four bodies from the property.

Police were called to the address in Wood Hill area of the city following reports by the emergency services of a fire.

Four people were found dead in the upstairs bedroom of the home. Police have said they are "unable to rule out" the possibility that the fire was linked to the murder of a man in Leicester city centre on 12 September.

A Leicester Police spokesperson said: "Police were called around 12:35 this morning by the fire service following a report of a fire at a house at Wood Hill, Leicester.

"On attendance it was reported that occupants were still inside the property.

"Four people were found deceased in upstairs bedrooms.

"The fire, which caused extensive damage to the property was extinguished by the fire service and the property has been cordoned off to allow for a full forensic examination.

"The circumstances and cause of the fire are currently under investigation and officers would ask anyone who has any information regarding the incident to please contact them."

A murder investigation was launched following the death of a man in his 20s who was assaulted in Kent Street on 12 September. He was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary but died from his injuries.

Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the victim being assaulted or can recall any suspicious activity in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cure, who is leading the enquiry, said: "Our investigation is in its very early stages and we are currently carrying out a number of enquiries to try to establish what has happened."
