LG G4 : How to enable hidden LTE and HSDPA bands
If you spend a lot of time travelling to other countries, and the internet bands on your LG G4 have let you down, there is a solution. Senior XDA member 'duraaraa' has found a way to add additional LTE and HSDPA bands to the G4.
To know what HSDPA/LTE band you have on your G4, go to the hidding settings menu. This can be accessed by typing 277634#*# then hitting Filed Text, Modem Settings and Network Mode (select LTE Band Selection for LTE bands).
Along with the available bands there are few extra bands (LTE and HSDPA) that do not work. But if you are in an exploratory mood and want to try out extra bands on your G4 you can do this with the CDMA tool.
Here's a guide on how to enable extra bands on the G4 by duraaraa, who tested it out on his international European LG G4 mode, H815, which supports the following bands:
- 2G bands: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
- 3G bands: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
- 4G bands: LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 17(700), 20(800), 28(700)
Check out our guide to enable bands on G4. This guide works for both HSDPA and LTE. Also, note that the following method works only LG G4 H815, so do not try this on any other variant.
How to enable extra LTE and HSDPA bands on LG G4
Step-1: Unlock the bootloader of your LG G4 and root it. Click here for our guide to rooting LG G4
Step-2: Install the LG USB drivers
Step-3: Download the CDMA tool
Step-4: Ensure that you have adb. Connect your G4 to the PC and execute the following commands in an adb shell
su
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/lg_diag_cmd/diag_enable
Step-5: Unplug and re-plug the USB cable. Your phone will be in diag mode
Step-6: Open DFS, which you downloaded from CDMA tool by creating an account. Close the account window, the software will launch
Step-7: Double click the phone to put a checkmark by it in DFS
Step-8: Click the Band tab. Choose RF BC Config at the bottom, then choose read
Step-9: Ensure that all bands are displayed. You can check the extra bands you want to add
Step-10: Click Write
Step-11: Click the LTE tab, then click Read. Now check the bands you wish to add and click Write. Then choose LTE BC Config DIV LTE #6829 at the bottom and repeat the process again
Note: Even though you don't change bands it is recommended to flash HSDPA and LTE both together before restarting the phone, as you might get errors such as losing bands
Step-12: Reboot the phone
Step-13: Get inside the hidden menu and test the new bands. You should see Success when you enter the test menu (277634#*#, Field test, Model Settings, Network Mode/LTE Band Selection)
