Sex offenders at HMP Lincoln are being kept locked up because they are in denial over their crimes

Sex offenders at Lincoln Prison are being kept locked behind bars because they are in denial over their crimes, according to a government inspection team.

The team said 63 out of the prison's 79 sex offenders were in denial after their conviction and as a result their stays at the prison had been prolonged.

The Ministry of Justice inspection, which took place in November 2013, said the prison lacked a strategy to overcome their refusal to accept the sexual offences they had committed.

It also said the issue meant some stayed at the establishment "far too long, with no meaningful offending behaviour work or clear progression plan".
