Little Mix's Perrie Edwards sings about why she had to fake it with Zayn Malik
Little Mix will debut Shout Out To My Ex during their X Factor performance on 16 October.
Perrie Edwards looks set to break her silence on her highly-publicised split from ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik. Little Mix have announced their new single Shout Out To My Ex and it is suggested that the break-up single has been partly inspired by Edwards' ill-fated romance with the former One Direction singer.
Little Mix, which also consists of Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, will debut Shout Out To My Ex with a performance on The X Factor results show on Sunday (16 October). According to The Sun, Edwards, 23, will sing about her sex life with Malik, 23, and allegedly makes reference to his current girlfriend Gigi Hadid.
Lyrics reportedly include: "I hope she gettin' better sex/ Hope she ain't fakin' it like I did, babe," and: "Guess I should say thank you, For the 'hate yous' and the tattoos/Oh baby I'm cool by the way, Ain't sure I loved you anyway."
One confirmed line from the song, includes: "Shout out to my ex, you're really quite the man. You made my heart break and that made me who I am." Shout Out To My Ex was co-written by Little Mix, Camille Purcell and Iain James with production from Electric.
A press release about the song states: "Shout Out To My Ex is the epitome of the word anthem. An empowering, in your face, break up song, with a killer chorus and bold lyrics, this track is sure to ignite pop fans worldwide."
Edwards and Malik split in August 2015, two years after they got engaged. Reports at the time alleged that the Pillowtalk singer had broken up with Edwards over the phone. Malik is now in a relationship with American supermodel Hadid while Edwards is said to be dating Our Girl actor Luke Pasqualino.
Shout Out To My Ex will serve as the lead single for Little Mix's fourth studio album, which is expected for release in November. Speaking about the single, Thirlwall said: "Shout Out To My Ex is a song that we're sure loads of people can relate to. It's all about moving on after a relationship ends to bigger and better things, and leaving the past where it should be."
Edwards added: "We're really proud and excited about our new album and can't wait to share the new music with everyone. Shout Out To My Ex was unanimously our favourite choice for the first single. It's the perfect taster for what is to come."
Little Mix released their third album Get Weird in November 2015 and it became their most successful to date peaking at number two on the UK chart and selling over 2.5 million copies worldwide. The album was supported by an arena tour, which sold 330,000 tickets and earned the group the title of best UK arena act.
Shout Out To My Ex will be available to download and stream immediately after Little Mix's performance on The X Factor.
