Daniel Sturridge returned to Liverpool's starting lineup and the striker helped the Reds seal a berth in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup after scoring two goals in his side's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on 25 October.

A goal in the ninth minute from the England international gave the Merseyside club an early lead. He doubled the lead by netting one in the 64th minute. Vincent Janssen pulled one back for the White Hart Lane in the 76th minute and it was a nervy end for Jurgen Klopp's side.

However, Tottenham fell short in the end as they failed to find their second goal, which resulted in their exit from the competition.

Mauricio Pochettino was disappointed with the referee's decision in showing only a yellow card to Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold for his tackle on Ben Davies. The former Southampton manager believes the defender should have been given the marching orders for his tackle on the Wales international.

Not surprised at all with the results. I think the last time Spurs used to defeat Liverpool, the manager was Harry Redknapp. #THFC #EFLcup

#thfc Wanyama made a big difference - it looked like damage limitation when he came on but he took control of midfield & tested Mignolet too

And the EFL cup is a pointless trophy that no one really cares about hence our youngsters getting a game #COYS #THFC #LFCvTHFC

Still makes me sad when we go out the League Cup. Since I supported the club it's the only trophy I've ever seen us win... #THFC #EFLCup
