Liverpool Agree Iago Aspas Loan To Sevilla

Liverpool have agreed terms in principle to send unsettled striker Iago Aspas on loan to La Liga side Sevilla until the end of the season - with an option allowing the Andalusian club to make the deal permanent next summer.

The 26-year-old striker joined the Reds last summer after they paid £7m to Celta Vigo to secure his services, but he has struggled to secure a regular place under manager Brendan Rodgers during his first campaign at Anfield.

Even though he scored 12 goals in La Liga the season before his move to Anfield, Aspas started only five games for Liverpool last season – unable to dislodge the first-choice strike partnership of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

After the Reds bolstered their attacking force with Ricky Lambert earlier this summer, Aspas' future at the club has been under increasing scrutiny.

Sevilla asked Liverpool for the loan earlier this month, and even though the Reds initially claimed they will consider only a permanent deal, they have finally agreed to part ways with the striker on loan – giving Sevilla the chance to purchase the forward for three seasons with an option for a fourth.

The La Liga side confirmed the agreement in their official website, saying: "Today Sevilla FC and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement in principle for Iago Aspas.

"The player will arrive on loan for the 14/15 season with an option to buy. At the end of the season Sevilla FC may exercise a clause to purchase the Galician striker for three years with an option for a fourth.

"The President of Sevilla FC Jose Castro and Ian Ayre, the chief executive of Liverpool have finalised this agreement, which is subject to the Galician footballer passing a medical and the signing of contracts which have been drafted by both clubs."

Earlier this weeks reports in Spain confirmed the striker had agreed personal terms to move to Sevilla accepting a reduction to his £1.2m salary.

Asked during a recent interview with IBTimes UK whether he would settle for another season on the bench, Aspas suggested he was likely to move away this summer by replying "not really.

"Everything depends on what the club wants at the end of the season. Now we are just focused on the Premier League and we cannot be thinking about individual aspects."
