Liverpool Enter Discussions with Agent of Uruguayan Winger – Report
Gaston Ramirez is currently in England playing for Uruguay at the London Olympics
The agent of Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez has today arrived in London as he reportedly prepares to hold talks with representatives from Liverpool.
The Uruguay international is currently in England for the London Olympics and was on target yesterday as he scored the equaliser in against the United Arab Emirates, before Nicolas Lodeiro secured all three points.
Ramirez has established himself as one of the most exciting wingers in Italy and has been regularly linked with a whole host of clubs from around Europe after starring for Bologna.
However, the Metro believes that it is Liverpool that will open negotiations with the agent of Ramirez who revealed that he has travelled to England in order to discuss a potential move to the Premier League.
"Gaston is ready to leave Italy - so much so I am in England for talks with a Premier League club," Ramirez's agent Pablo Betancourt told Italian publication Mercato, as reported in the Metro. "He is one of the most important players in Uruguray, so there are no shortage of offers."
While there was no mention of Liverpool, there is a growing belief that Brendan Rodgers has identified the winger as the man needed to further strengthen his squad which is short of wide players.
Liverpool are overflowing with options in the centre of midfield with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva and Alberto Aquilani battling for a place, but it is in the wide areas that they need reinforcements.
Stewart Downing is the only natural winger at the club, and while Ramirez also prefers to play on the left, the England international is equally qualified to play on the right as he did for much of his spell at Aston Villa.
Ramirez also offers a goal threat with 12 league goals in his two seasons in Serie A, while he has also become a regular member of the Uruguay side where he plays alongside Liverpool's Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates.
