Liverpool on the Brink of Sealing Alberto Moreno Deal After Agreeing Fee with Sevilla
Liverpool are on the brink of completing the transfer of Sevilla's Alberto Moreno after the clubs agreed a fee for the full back, reports in Spain suggest.
The Reds were hopeful of securing a deal for the highly-rated 22-year-old before the World Cup but talks broke down following Sevilla's refusal to accept a €20m offer in a series of instalments.
Liverpool subsequently turned their attention to Ben Davies and Ryan Bertrand in their attempts to solve their left back problem but both have since joined Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton respectively.
The club have since reopened talks with Sevilla over a move for Moreno with the club's chief executive Ian Ayre travelling to Spain to tie up what would be the club's sixth transfer of the summer.
Seville-based newspaper Estadio Deportivo, who were first to reveal initial negotiations between the clubs broke down last month, suggest a deal is on the verge of being announced after fresh talks.
According to the report, Moreno has already agreed a five year contract with the Merseyside club, a deal worth €1.5m a year of the young defender, and is likely to officially leave the club in the coming days.
Sevilla's stance was perhaps softened by the arrival of Iago Aspas at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. The Liverpool misfit joined the Europa League champions on a season long loan deal last month after failing to deliver an impact on Merseyside last term.
The La Liga club have the option to purchase the forward outright at the end of the season and Aspas will be hoping that will be the case after incurring the wrath of Liverpool fans by urging Moreno to reject a move to Anfield.
Aspas, who started just six games during his miserable first season at the club, believes the youngster would be better suited remaining in Seville.
"I have not spoken with Alberto about Liverpool," Aspas told the Seville edition of Spanish publication ABC. "Yes, it is true that the teammates make some jokes about the topic. But if it's a question of life, I would say that in Sevilla it is better than there (in Liverpool), that's for sure.
"And I've just been in Sevilla for three or four days. Now I belong to Sevilla, I prefer him to stay here."
Moreno will be joined by his compatriot Javier Manquillo on Merseyside after the 20-year-old right back agreed to a loan move from Atletico Madrid, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The club are expected to confirm the youngster's arrival on a two-year-loan deal from the Spanish champions and will have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of this season.
Manquillo will undergo a medical on Monday.
