Liverpool injury news: Daniel Sturridge in contention to face Manchester United after returning to full training
Liverpool have been handed a massive injury boost as their star striker Daniel Sturridge could be in contention to face Manchester United after returning to full training. Brendan Rodgers takes his men to Old Trafford for the Premier League clash on 12 September, Saturday.
The England international saw his first team appearances limited last season as he spent most of his time on the treatment table with multiple injuries. He last featured for the Reds during their 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup Sixth Round clash.
The Daily Mail reports Sturridge is back in training along with the first team players as Liverpool prepare for the clash against United. He underwent a hip surgery in May and missed the club's pre-season tour as he was undergoing a rehabilitation programme in the United States.
The former Chelsea man posted a video of him training in August at Liverpool's Melwood training ground. He had set his sights on returning to the pitch after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. He even posted a picture of himself along with Jordan Ibe on his official Twitter account on 10 September.
The club's medical staff are impressed by the player's rehabilitation programme, which has seen them allow him to train with the first team. Despite Sturridge returning to full training, Rodgers is yet to make a decision if he could play any part against United on Saturday.
Liverpool suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham United at Anfield before the international break. Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal saw his side lose 2-1 to Swansea City during their trip to Wales.
Both teams will be looking to bounce back after their last defeat. Philippe Coutinho was sent off in Liverpool's defeat to West Ham and the Brazil international will miss his side's crucial trip to Old Trafford. The former Swansea manager is also sweating on Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana's fitness. The Liverpool Echo on 8 September reported the England international duo are doubtful for the United match as they are recovering from injuries they picked up in August.
