Liverpool Prepare £8m Bid for Inter Milan Midfielder Mateo Kovacic - Report
Liverpool are weighing an £8m bid for Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic in the summer after his agent revealed that the player is not happy in the Serie A club, according to the Metro.
Kovacic is among the most talented midfielders to come out of Europe in recent years with the player making the Inter starting line-up at only 19 years. However, a spat with the management has seen him lose his starting spot, something which has not gone down well with the teenager. The midfielder has made 25 appearances in the league for Inter Milan and has blossomed as a player since transferring from Dinamo Zagreb in 2012.
However, in spite of his form, the midfielder has fallen out of favour at the club and his agent insists that a transfer is on the cards given the current scenario. Brendan Rodgers has been a long-term admirer of the player and is willing to complete a transfer before the world cup to shrug off interest from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham, who have previously enquired about the player. The player was also linked with a move to Manchester United with the youngster hinting that he would prefer a move to old Trafford to anything else.
"Everybody is confused as to why Mateo is not playing. Is there a row with Mazzarri I can't say a lot, but he is not happy," his agent said.
The midfielder is known for his engine and excellent range of passing and will come in as a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard, who is entering his mid-thirties. The presence of a like-minded midfielder in Jordan Henderson alongside him will give Liverpool some energy in the midfield, something which has been compensated this season by the pace of their attacking trio in Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling.
Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League and with a fighting chance to win the title this season. The Reds are only one point behind Chelsea and two ahead of Manchester City, who have two games in hand.
