Liverpool to raise funds by selling three players to sign Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko
Liverpool are considering a move to sign Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko this summer, reports the Daily Mail.
The 29-year-old has seen his first team appearances been limited this season as he started in only 12 league games under Manuel Pellegrini. His form has also dipped as he bagged only six goals in all competitions.
Brendan Rodgers has Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Daniel Sturridge as the four strikers in the squad. The former Chelsea striker has been sidelined with injury for a long time and is set to miss the start of the next campaign.
The Reds are set to allow the Italian duo and the former Southampton striker leave in the summer transfer window. The Northern Irishman is believed to use the funds raised from the sale of these three players in signing Dzeko.
City have already signed Wilfried Bony from Swansea City in January. The arrival of the Ivory Coast international has seen Dzeko drop further down the pecking order.
The Merseyside club have lacked goals this season, especially with multiple injuries to Sturridge and after losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona. Rodgers is looking to strengthen the area and has already admitted the Anfield club will be looking to sign a striker to improve goal-scoring stats.
Liverpool ended their chase in signing Christian Benteke after they found out that Aston Villa are not looking to allow the Belgium international leave the club. They are closing in on landing Burnley star Danny Ings.
Despite that, Rodgers has made Dzeko Liverpool's priority summer target to bolster his side's strike force. Any move from the Reds to sign City star will see them face competition from their league rivals Chelsea. He has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
The newly-crowned Premier League champions are looking to add more fire power to their strike force as they look to defend the title next season. The same report claims Jose Mourinho is also in the hunt to sign the Citizens' striker in the summer transfer window.
