Liverpool are considering a summer bid for Tottenham target Christian Atsu, according to the Mirror. The Ghana international has already been linked to White Hart Lane, with an earlier Mirror report claiming Andre Villas-Boas was monitoring the FC Porto star.

Atsu's contract expires next summer and has only a £8m release clause, meaning the Portuguese club have little to bargain with; they will likely accept a cut-price fee in order to ensure the player does not move for free in 2014.

As a result, Brendan Rodgers could sign Atsu for as little as £3m... an option that will please the former Swansea City manger given the general paucity of transfer funds at Anfield. In addition, reported plans to sell wingers like Stewart Downing and last summer's signing Oussama Assaidi, as well as midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, will mean there will be plenty of place for Atsu at the Merseyside club.

The one point of concern for Liverpool chiefs will be that Atsu reportedly favours a move to north London, for the chance to reunite with former manager AVB. In general though, the 21-year-old favours a move to the Premier League.

"There are times when we have to think about following our dreams and this is the time to follow my dream. Since I started playing football I have dreamt to play in the Premier League. I will be sad to leave Porto but if I leave I would want my future to be in England," he explained.

Atsu has 16 league appearances for Porto this season (eight starts) and one goal. He also represented Ghana at the African Nations Cup earlier this year and the Express has also hinted at interest from Liverpool's rivals Everton.
