Rodgers Watches Winger in Germany as Liverpool Eye January Move for Egyptian Star - Report

Liverpool are considering a move in signing FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims the Reds manager Brendan Rodgers made a trip to Germany to watch the Egypt international in action during Basel's 2-0 defeat to Schalke in the Champions League. The result saw the Swiss outfit force to feature in the Europa League after finish third in the group.

The Merseyside club have been closely monitoring the 21-year-old who has impressed during Basel's home and away victories over Chelsea in the group stages fixtures of the Champions League. Salah scored in both fixtures as Jose Mourinho's side suffered two defeats in the early stages of the European competition.

Salah has been impressive this season, scoring four goals and managing four assists in the Swiss Super League this season. The Daily Mail claims that Basel are willing to let their star player leave, if the interested clubs offer a fee of £15m for his services.

The same report claims that Liverpool are likely to face competition from England and Europe for Salah's signature. The Reds face Tottenham Hotpsur for the league fixture on Sunday and Andre Villas-Boas' side are also believed to be interested in signing the winger.

The north London club have been impressed with Salah's performance for Basel during their Champions League fixture this season and also during the semi-final of the Europa League last season.

In addition to the Spurs, Turkish champions Galatasaray and Monaco are also believed to be keen on landing Salah. His style of play has seen him dubbed as the "Egyptian Messi".

Meanwhile, Salah has already expressed his desire to feature in the Premier League after revealing his dream of playing for either Chelsea or Manchester United.

"I'm very proud to have scored two goals against Chelsea. I want to play for one of the best teams in the world. My favourites are Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea," the Metro quoted Salah as saying.

Rodgers has revealed that Liverpool are looking for players to further strengthen their squad. The addition of Salah is likely to bolster Liverpool's squad and also improve their chances of finishing the season in the top four.

The Reds are second in the table with 30 points from 15 games, trailing league leaders Arsenal by five points.
