Jurgen Klopp is likely to move for Barcelona goalie Marc-André ter Stegen due to his doubts over Liverpool's current options between the sticks, Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan, according to Spanish media reports. The German manager is also understood to have earmarked Victor Valdes as another possible option, with the Manchester United keeper desperate to end his Old Trafford nightmare in the January transfer window.

Ter Stegen, 23, was previously linked with a Premier League move in 2014, when he was one of Europe's hottest properties due to his performances with Borussia Monchengladbach. However, Barcelona beat other suitors for his services, paying in the region of £10m ($15.4m) to make him a replacement for Valdes at the Nou Camp.

The German failed to establish himself as a first choice option in his first season under Luis Enrique, however, being restricted to Champions League and cup games while Claudio Bravo featured in the league. Ter Stegen hoped to turn this situation around this season, especially when Bravo was struck with injury. Instead, he has been placed under increased scrutiny due to a perceived number of easy goals conceded.

Sport claims that Klopp is likely to take advantage of this situation and make the player an offer to become his number one at Anfield. The German manager previously tried to sign Ter Stegen during his Borussia Dortmund days.

A sticking point may be the unwillingness of Barcelona to part with the player, with his release clause set at €80m (£56.6m). The Spanish publication suggests that this would open the door for a move for Valdes, especially after the keeper's agent revealed the Spaniard would like to remain in the Premier League after the January window closes.
