Liverpool to Trump Tottenham and Valencia in Signing PSV Starlet Zakaria Bakkali
Liverpool are preparing a move in signing PSV Eindhoven starlet Zakaria Bakkali in the summer transfer window.
The 18-year-old came up through the ranks of the Dutch club's youth system before breaking into PSV's first team in 2013.
Bakkali has seen a meteoric rise during the start of the last campaign and has scored three goals in the league last season. His form saw him make his international debut for Belgium last year.
According to Belgium newspaper Sport, Liverpool, their league rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Spanish club Valencia are all interested in signing the talented winger. However, Brendan Rodgers are in pole position to land Bakkali this summer.
PSV values the winger at around £8m and the Merseyside club are willing to meet the Eredivisie outfit's valuation in signing Bakkali. The teenager's form has seen him being dubbed as the next Eden Hazard.
The Belgium international's contract with his current employer runs down at the end of the season. The player is believed to be unhappy after he saw his first team appearances restricted in the second half of the previous campaign.
Bakkali has delayed signing a new deal and PSV are willing to cash in on the player this summer, rather than letting him leave for nothing at the end of the next season. A source close to the player admitted the Belgium winger is leaving the Dutch club.
"He says he's leaving. It's all gone a bit fast for him," Sport quoted a source close to Bakkali as saying.
In addition to this, PSV chief executive Marcel Brands has already revealed a new deal has already been offered to the winger. He also stressed the club will "not run after" Bakkali to convince him to continue in the Netherlands.
"We have offered Bakkali the best renewal possible, now it's up to him. We won't run after anyone," Brands told Voetbal International.
With PSV willing to let their starlet leave in the ongoing transfer window, Liverpool could beat Tottenham and Valencia for Bakkali's signature.
