Where to watch live

Kick-off is at 7.45pm GMT. Live TV coverage of the game will be available on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD.

Overview

Jurgen Klopp is preparing to take charge of his fourth game as manager, but is yet to taste victory, with his first three games ending in draws. The German manager will hope that his team can get back to winning ways after struggling to kill off games in their last two encounters against Rubin Kazan and Southampton.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager has his fair share of injury worries ahead of the game, with Divock Origi, the only striker available after Christian Benteke returned to the treatment room after scoring against the Saints. Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Henderson and Danny Ings are also sidelined. Roberto Firmino could start the game after his return from injury against Southampton.

Bournemouth come into the game on the back of a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, and Eddie Howe will hope that his team can put in a better performance at Anfield in the League Cup. The Reds met the Cherries twice in cup competitions last season, with the Merseyside club coming out on top on both occasions making Klopp's team favourites on Wednesday night.

Bournemouth also have injury issues with Max Gradel, Tyrome Mings and top scorer Callum Wilson facing prolonged absence.

What managers say

Jurgen Klopp: "I will make the changes not because this tournament isn't important for me – that is important for me to say. When I make changes, it is because I want to win the game – that's the only reason for this. It is always because we believe we can win with that team and we always do what we believe we have to do in that moment. With this game, Bournemouth, I will play for the first time in this cup and it is very important – a very, very important game – but I know we have had three games in the last eight or nine days in the legs, so we have to change."

Eddie Howe: Jurgen is a manager of great reputation who has done magical things in his last job. I'm sure Liverpool will hope he can recreate that. It's a great challenge to go there and progress. You can ignite your season with a good cup run. We certainly felt hard done by with one or two decisions which went against us in the league game."
