London Uber cab death: Driver kills one-year-old boy in crash outside Dutch Embassy in Kensington
An taxi driver accidentally killed a one-year-old boy outside the Dutch Embassy in Kensington. Konstantin Fadeev – who lived in South Kensington and was aged 22 months – died after a Toyota Prius collided with him at Hyde Park Gate on Tuesday (7 March).
The incident happened at about 6.10pm when Konstantin was walking with a family member. He was struck by the eco-friendly car as it turned in a driveway. He was taken to a central London hospital by London Ambulance. He died at 9.50pm.
The driver is believed to have been driving for Atlas Cars at the time of the crash but is also an Uber driver. A spokesman for the online taxi firm said the driver taxied customers for them "last weekend" and not after Sunday night. An Atlas Cars employee told IBTimes UK to "call back on Monday" when the manager would be in.
A Met Police statement said: "The car – a licensed taxi – stopped at the scene. The driver was not arrested and is helping police with their enquiries. The incident is being investigated by detectives from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit."
