London School of Economics students and workers evacuated from Aldwych campus as building collapses

About 200 people, including workers and students at the London School of Economics (LSE) have been evacuated from the area around Aldwych after a building in Portugal Street collapsed.
Passers-by reported hearing a "large crash" as the seven-storey building, which was under demolition, collapsed. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said a 56-year-old woman was injured in the collapse.

The London Fire Brigade said it had two ambulances, three fire rescue units and around 30 fire fighters and officers on the scene. It set up safety cordons before handing over responsibility to the police.
Only a few weeks ago, the area had to be evacuated when an electrical fire broke out underground, causing blackouts across London and several traffic disruption for days in the Holborn area.
