Lovren's Arrival at Liverpool Triggers Agger Exit Talks as Barcelona Consider €15m Bid
Barcelona are reportedly preparing a bid in signing Liverpool star Daniel Agger in the ongoing transfer window following the arrival of Dejan Lovren at Anfield.
Spanish newspaper Sport claims that the La Liga runners-up have rekindled their interest in the defender and will consider launching a €15m bid.
They are still seeking a replacement for their retired legendary skipper Carles Puyol. The Denmark international has been on the Catalan giant's radar since last year but a move failed to materialise.
The Catalan club have already signed versatile defender Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia but are said to be keen on making one more signing to strengthen their back four.
New Barcelona manager Luis Enrique was believed to have set his sights on Tottenham Hotspur's Jan Vertonghen and Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen.
However, the Belgian international has confirmed that he has been offered a new five-year contract to commit his future at White Hart Lane. On the other hand, the 27-year-old's compatriot at the Emirates has emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United.
Paris Saint-Germain's Marquinhos too was a potential target for the Blaugrana but they have reportedly had their €40m offer rebuffed by the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
Agger's chances of playing regularly in the Reds starting lineup diminished with Mamadou Sakho's arrival last summer.
Further doubts have been cast on the 29-year-old's future at Anfield after the Merseyside club completed the acquisition of Lovren from Southampton.
The Sport's report states that the former Brondby star is excited at the possibility of embarking on a new adventure.
Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta believes that Brendan Rodgers' vice-captain has the necessary abilities to flourish in Camp Nou.
Last week, Agger had hinted that he could consider leaving Anfield this summer. The report also suggests that Liverpool and Barcelona are on good terms owing to the £75m transfer of Luis Suarez. The positive relationship between the clubs could accelerate the possibility of the defender's arrival in Spain for the upcoming campaign.
