Luke Cage season two: Netflix's hit Marvel TV series renewed
Superhero show's official Twitter page shared the news on Sunday 4 December.
Netflix's Luke Cage has been renewed for a second season. The show's official Twitter page shared the news on 4 December, with a teasing video which glimpsed character Pop's barber shop and a neon-lit "Season 2 coming soon" on the window. Alongside the clip, the caption read "Always forward", a nod to Pop's motto during the first season.
While the news is exciting for followers of the superhero show, it's hardly surprising given how well it went down with critics and fans alike. Starring Mike Colter in the titular role, the show focused on Cage, a man whose super strength and unbreakable skin leads him to adopt a vigilante persona in Harlem, with the aim of taking down criminal Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes (Mahershala Ali).
As most avid Marvel fans know, the studio likes to link its big-screen features together and it looks like its television series will be no different. Rosario Dawson, who was first introduced to the small screen universe in Daredevil and who recently reprised her role in Luke Cage, will be seen again as Hell's Kitchen nurse Claire Temple in upcoming show Iron Fist. The same goes for Carrie-Anne Moss, whose lawyer Jeri Hogarth (first seen in Jessica Jones) will have a cameo too.
After that, all four titular heroes; Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) will be seen teaming up in The Defenders – set to reach the streaming service sometime in 2017. Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed to be playing the villain in the joint series.
Similarly, the studio has a third season of Daredevil in the pipeline, as well as a second season of Jessica Jones and a spin-off involving Jon Bernthal's The Punisher too. Thanks to all these titles Marvel has lined up (and how many actors feature in each outing), scheduling will evidently prove tricky, so it's hard to anticipate when Luke Cage's second season might reach the small screen but one thing's for certain... people will be tuning in whenever it may be.
