Luke Shaw, Wayne Rooney and Michael Essien: The Best and Worst of the Transfer Window 27/01
Best rumour of the day
News emerging from the Manchester United camp may well put to bed rumours of a Wayne Rooney move to Chelsea once and for all.
United are rumoured to be close to offering the 28-year-old striker a £300,000 a week, four-and-a-half year deal plus the captaincy if he were to stay at Old Trafford.
The England international's current deal is due to expire in 17 months but United sources have confirmed that there has been communication between Manchester United and Rooney's advisor, Paul Stretford.
While Rooney's relationship with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson was fraught at times, current boss David Moyes has shown he is keen to keep Rooney a key part of his plans moving forward.
Moyes will hope that faithfullness will prevail considering the ex-Everton manager coached a young Rooney at Goodison Park before the striker made the move to Old Trafford.
Worst rumour of the day
Chelsea and Manchester United find themselves face-to-face once more only this time their bidding war revolves around Southampton star Luke Shaw.
Both clubs are reportedly looking to close in on a deal for the 18-year-old left back before this January's window is up.
It's rapidly looking as though Manchester United will need to out-bid their rivals as Shaw himself remains closely affiliated to Chelsea as a fan and as a former player in the club's development centre.
With the clock rapidly running down and on the back of a Juan Mata deal that took almost a week to close, is four days really going to be enough to get the deal done?

Deals of the day
The Mata deal seems to have brought the transfer window to life.
Finally we are starting to see some more major deals go through and not a minute too soon as the current window draws rapidly to an end.
Michael Essien will leave Chelsea for AC Milan for an undisclosed fee while Bolton's David Ngog heads to Swansea City and Shaun Williams of Milton Keynes Dons heads to Millwall.
