Mafia 3 gets 7 October release date and dramatic new story trailer
Open world crime thriller Mafia 3 will launch worldwide on 7 October for PS4, Xbox One and PC, developer Hangar 13 and publisher 2K Games have announced. The news was confirmed in a new trailer (embedded below) outlining the game's story of revenge in 1960s New Orleans.
Announced at Gamescom last August, Mafia 3 follows the success of its 2010 predecessor with a new approach for the series which until now as concerned the familiar tropes and sights of the Italian mob.
Mafia tells the story of Vietnam vet Lincoln Clay, who on his return to civilised society discovers a surrogate family in the black mob. After the gang is betrayed by the Italian Mafia, and left all but dead - Clay embarks on a bloody mission of revenge.

As IBTimes UK noted after seeing an extended gameplay demo last August, the most intriguing aspect of Mafia 3 is its setting. The late 60s were a turbulent time in America with the aftermath of the Vietnam War, the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King Jr's assassination, not to mention the sexual revolution and drug culture of the time.
There's plenty for Hangar 13 to draw from, which will help differentiate the title from Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto, an obvious influence, particularly in terms of how it will play. We can expect to hear more about the game at the E3 trade show in June.
