Man arrested after Birmingham rapper Kane Balogun killed in car crash
A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after 14-year-old Birmingham rapper Kane Balogun was killed in an accident. The 26-year-old man was taken into custody after the Peugeot 206 he was driving struck a tree, killing the rapper.
The 14-year-old was an up-and-coming grime rapper in the underground scene in Birmingham. He performed under the name KD and belonged to the Fully Reppin' Brum (FRB) crew.
The accident happened in the Hodge Hill area, north east Birmingham just after 11pm on Friday. Witnesses said the car smashed into a tree before spinning 180 degrees to face the direction it had come from. Residents heard a "massive bang" as the car collided with the tree, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The driver was dazed but he was able to walk away from the vehicle, but the passenger appeared to be unconscious. Two ambulances were sent to the scene and despite paramedics attempts to revive him, but he was pronounced dead after suffering from chest and stomach injuries.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews performed advanced life support techniques on the boy but despite those best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
According to witnesses, some girls arrived at the scene and could be heard crying and saying their friend had died. Two fire crews were also sent to the scene of the crash and they helped block off the road.
Devastated friends have set up a Facebook page to honour the talented rapper. Alex Jackson wrote: "RIP KD you were tragically taken may you rest in paradise soldier. My thoughts are with your family and friends, peace little man."
While Curly Porter added: "My heart is saddened by this tragic news, a very kind and talented young man. May his soul rest in peace, my condolences to his family at this time."
Any witnesses to the crash have been asked to contact police on 101.
