Man charged with murder of carer in Hyde Park
Hani Khalaf, 21, is accused of murdering Jairo Medina, 62, whose body was discovered near Speaker's Corner.
A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder after a body was found in London's Hyde Park last week. Hani Khalaf, of no fixed address, is accused of murdering Jairo Medina, 62.
Mr Medina, who worked as a professional carer was found dead by a member of the public in the royal park on 12 August at around 5.50am. His body was discovered close to Speakers' Corner. Police pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to Sky News, the victim had suffered an assault, but a post-mortem examination carried out last week did not ascertain a cause of death.
Khalaf, an Egyptian national, was arrested and taken into custody on Thursday (18 August).
He spoke through an interpreter to confirm his name and date of birth when he appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court, ITV News reports.
He will appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday (23 August).
