Man rescued from Morro Rock after romantic proposal - then arrested
A California Highway Patrol helicopter carried Morro Bay firefighters to save a man stranded on the Morro Rock in Morro Bay, California, on 7 April. Michael Banks, 27, climbed the 600ft Morro Rock to propose to his girlfriend via FaceTime but got stuck on the way down.
Morro Bay Fire Captain Todd Gailey descended by cable and hoisted Banks from a narrow ledge. Local reports said Banks' girlfriend agreed to marry him. The footage shows the rescue operation from the helicopter as Gailey and the chopper pilot battle strong winds to get to Banks.
Local media reported that Banks was ticketed for misdemeanor trespassing but returned to the rock hours after he was rescued and was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and being under the influence. He will also likely be fined and billed for the cost of the rescue.
