A tie which never looked like ending had a penalty shoot-out which almost didn't as well. Atletico Madrid prevail as Juanfran scores the decisive spot kick but it is pain for PSV who invested so much in the tie over the 210 minutes.
Well that brings an end to an interesting evening in the Champions League. Manchester City and Atletico Madrid join the line up for the quarter-finals. Tomorrow, Barcelona and Arsenal and Bayern Munich and Juventus will bid to join them. Until then, goodbye.
Full time: Manchester City 0-0 Dynamo Kiev
Manchester City are through to their first ever Champions League quarter-final at the expense of Dynamo Kiev. The work was done in the first leg when they claimed a 3-1 win and tonight they have cemented that with a goalless draw at home. It should not be overlooked however, this was an embarrassingly poor game and not one which will enter the annuls of European football history. Vincent Kompany went off in the first half with what looked like a calf issue, while Nicolas Otamendi was also a first half substitution after suffering a dead leg. We wait to hear the prognoses on the pair ahead of the Manchester derby.
Now PSV come within a hair's breath of breaking the deadlock in Madrid and it is probably the closest we have had to a goal in the whole tie. Locadia gets the ball on his right foot and curls goalwards and it take a combination of Oblak's right arm and the post to prevent the Dutch side from taking the lead.
If this is truly Europe's cream, then I am sorry but we need a new definition. An ugly first half defined by injury and ill-discipline in a tie which was put firmly to bed three weeks ago. Manchester City have lost Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi for the remainder of the game and almost certainly beyond, including the Manchester derby. Chances have been non-existent otherwise. Go have a lie down.
Not much goalmouth action but a problem for Manchester City inside five minutes. Vincent Kompany holds of Gusev but puts the ball out immediately. The Belgian grimaced his way through the challenge and it looks like his troublesome calf, which has dogged him all season, is the source of the anguish.
Manuel Pellegrini on BT Sport: "The best team at the moment is similar to the one that played in Dynamo. Two different competitions we're not thinking about happens in Norwich. We played well in the second round in Kiev and we are going to play again a difficult team and we need to focus on what we did in the first leg. It is most important to qualify but we try to qualify playing well and winning the game."
In Spain, Atletico Madrid take on PSV with all to play for after a goalless first leg. Atletico may not be full of goals this season but having conceded just 12 in the league this season they will be a tough proposition for Philip Cocu's side. All the updates from the Spanish capital throughout the night.
City were hopeless against Norwich City at the weekend as their title challenge fizzled out at Carrow Road. Tonight they can take a giant, yet not unexpected step into the last eight in Manuel Pellegrini's last season in charge. The Chilean is on course to end the campaign with only the League Cup to show for, but could City go all the way in this competition? We may not get the answer for that tonight but if City can make short work of Dynamo then it may re-energise the rest of their season.
With Chelsea having been dumped out by PSG and Arsenal facing an inevitable fate against Barcelona, Manchester City are flying the Premier League flag all on their own in the Champions League. Manuel Pellegrini's team might be out of the title race, but they stand on the brink of reaching the last eight of Europe's top tier competition for the first time having claimed a 3-1 win over Dynamo Kiev in the Ukraine three weeks ago. Tonight, City will look to complete the job against the team managed by former Tottenham striker Sergei Rebrov. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid and PSV will look to settle their tie after a goalless first leg. Team news on the way.
