Manchester City vs Liverpool: Sergio Aguero eyes return from injury after missing seven games
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has warned Liverpool he is "doing everything in his power" in order to recovery from a hamstring injury in time for the weekend's Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium. The Argentina international has missed the club's last seven games, but having returned to training he is optimistic over his fitness.
The 27-year-old suffered a grade-two hamstring tear in Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Ecuardo on 8 October and has not played a club fixture since scoring five times against Newcastle United last month. But the former Atletico Madrid forward says he is making huge strides towards regaining full fitness in time for the visit of the Reds.
"I do hope I can play in this game," Aguero told City's official website regarding the visit of Liverpool. "I'm doing everything in my power to get to the match in top condition. It's been a frustrating time."
"Obviously the game against Newcastle was special because it's not every week you get to score five goals in one game," he added. "The only other occasion I remember scoring five in a single match was when I was 12!
"I was playing in the pre-youth divisions for Independiente and it was the first important tournament that I'd participated in. We played against a local team and won 7-0 and I scored five times but it doesn't happen too often, does it? I managed to score four against Tottenham last season, which was the most I'd scored as a professional up to that point."
Aguero could be joined by David Silva for the visit of Liverpool after both players were injured on international duty. The playmaker suffered an ankle blow in Spain's European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg, being substituted after just nine minutes of the game.
The news comes amid Samir Nasri being ruled out for another three months after suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury. The France international has also been absent since October and was due to return against Liverpool. However, Nasri posted an update via his official Instagram page confirming he faced being out until 2016.
