Overview
City were eliminated from the FA Cup semi-final after Alexis Sanchez's extra-time winner helped Arsenal to make it to the final of the competition. The game was decided in the extra-time after the tie ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
Sergio Aguero gave his side the lead before it was cancelled by Nacho Monreal's goal. It was Sanchez's strike at the end that made the difference between the two sides as the Citizens were knocked out of the FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola will finish without a trophy for the first time in his managerial career. He will be hoping City can avoid a defeat and help his side seal three points in the derby clash during the midweek.
United enter this tie after registering a 2-0 comfortable victory over Burnley. Anthony Martial opened the scoring before Wayne Rooney doubled the lead at Turf Moor in the first half. They sealed much needed three points in the last league tie.
The Red Devils have also reached the Europa League semi-final where they face La Liga outfit Celta Vigo in the last four of the competition. In the league, they have a tough run in as they face City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur away in the next four matches.
Jose Mourinho will be looking for nothing less than a win when he takes his men to face City on Thursday. A victory will be a massive boost for United for the remaining fixtures in the league and the European competition.
What managers say
aWe will improve next season and be stronger. We make a good cup performance. All the games away against Premier League teams. We arrive here and we compete, create more chances than our opponent, and hit the post. It was a little bit similar like what happened in the season. The teams does not need to do a lot of things score goals [against us]. We have some problem to score but we play like we want. At the end we are sad. Tomorrow we have to stand up and prepare for the games we have still to play," Guardiola told City's official website.
Jose Mourinho: "I don't care. I don't even think about it. It is not a psychological approach. I just try to be who I am. I just try to be honest and direct, and I don't think about the consequences. You give me everything you have, I thank you for that. You don't give me everything you have, I ask you for more. That is just common sense. When you give everything you have, I cannot demand more from you, and Marcus, even not performing especially well, was giving absolutely everything. Some other guys don't give everything they have, so that is the point - they have to. And when they do it, I am happy with them. It doesn't matter the way they perform," Mourinho was reported as saying by the Daily Mail.
