Manchester United to bring back Tyler Blackett from loan at Celtic to avert injury crisis
Manchester United are set to bring back Tyler Blackett who is currently on loan at Celtic to compensate for the injury crisis in defence. The 21-year-old can play at left-back, a position where they are without Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo, out with long-term injuries.
The Daily Mail reports that United are in the market to sign a full-back but Blackett's return may give them some more time to assess the market and get a proper deal, which is imperative given the way their team is leaking goals at this point. The Red Devils are without a win in their last six games in all competitions, drawing three and losing the rest.
Manager Louis van Gaal is under massive pressure to get things right at the club and the Dutchman is eyeing reinforcements to get his team back on track. The media are already speculating about a possible sack for the manager, with Jose Mourinho waiting on the wings for a chance to take over at a Premier League club.
Shaw is ostensibly out for the season after suffering a double fracture in his right leg against PSV Eindoven in the Champions League while Rojo is nursing a shoulder injury for which he had to undergo a surgery. Van Gaal tried to use Ashley Young at the back to fill that quota while Daley Blind has also been asked to fill in at full-back, out of central defence, a position which he has made his own this season.
United have been using a lot of youngsters this season to compensate for the lack of options in the squad, with Axel Tuanzebe and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson both being given time on the pitch to show their credentials.
However, fans will be hoping that they are active in the market next month, given the series of results that has seen the Red Devils drop out of the group stages of the Champions League and into the Europa. Their league position has also taken a massive hit, going from being first to fifth in the space of a month, joint on points with Tottenham.
