Manchester United: Memphis Depay and Borussia Dortmund deny talks with Red Devils over players' transfers
Manchester United have suffered a double blow after two of Louis van Gaal's reported top transfer targets, Memphis Depay and Ilkay Gundogan denied holding talks with the Red Devils.
Various reports in recent weeks suggested that Old Trafford were close to securing the services of the two players, who play for PSV Eindohoven and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
Depay, who is supposedly Van Gaal's number one summer target, was reportedly in England for talks over a £25m move, with the club offering him £130,000-a-week to sign for the 20-times English champions.
The 20-year-old Dutch forward, who has had a stand-out season for PSV, is clearly going to leave the Eredivisie club in the summer after manager Phillip Cocu himself admitted that they were powerless to stop him from leaving, but the destination is still not clear as Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in securing the player's services ahead of next season.
The player has now confirmed that no decision has been made on his future and categorically denied that he had held talks with United over a summer move.
"No. I know nothing myself so I have nothing to say. Otherwise I wouldn't say this," Depay said, as quoted by the Mirror.
"Of course I'm looking at beautiful leagues. And then it's always nice if clubs are interested. But I don't want to say anything about that. We'll see how things go," the Dutchman added.
On the other hand, reports on Saturday suggested that Gundogan was close to agreeing a £21.5m move to Old Trafford, but the Bundesliga club's sporting director Michael Zorc has quashed the rumours and revealed that there had been absolutely no contact with United regarding the sale of the German midfielder.
"There is no signature, no contract, no offer, no request and not even contact," Zorc stated, as quoted by the Mirror.
"The last time I talked to Manchester United was in November 2014 and that was about a different topic," the Bundesliga club's sporting director explained.
