Jose Mourinho is actively working on strengthening his Manchester United squad ahead of next season and has reportedly identified Benfica midfielder Anderson Talisca as a potential summer target.

Talisca is currently on a two-year loan at Besiktas, but has a €24m (£20.5m) release clause that will remain active throughout his loan spell with the Turkish outfit.

According to Turkey Football, United are prepared to pay for the attacking midfielder's release and take him to Old Trafford in the summer. The Red Devils have reportedly been scouting Talisca throughout the campaign with a view to a summer move.

The 23-year-old Brazilian has impressed during his spell in Turkey and has scored 10 goals and assisted a further five in 25 games in all competitions. As per the report, Liverpool have also been interested in the midfielder and were close to completing a move last summer. Jurgen Klopp's side have maintained their interest in Talisca and are likely to challenge United for the midfielder's services during the upcoming transfer window.

The Portuguese manager recently revealed that he knows what the needs of his squad are ahead of next season and confirmed that he has also informed the board about his summer targets. The Red Devils have been linked with moves for a number of players with Antoine Griezmann's name being the most frequently mentioned.

United, meanwhile, are facing the prospect of failing to qualify for the Champions League next season as they are currently in the fifth place in the Premier League at the moment. They are five points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, but have played one game fewer than their city rivals.

Mourinho has prioritised the Europa League in which they are in the quarter-finals over finishing in the top four – as a victory in Europe's second-tier club competition will guarantee them a place in the Champions League next season.
