Manchester United star Daley Blind emerges as transfer target for Arsenal
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has identified a few players that will not be included in his plans at Old Trafford for the upcoming campaign. The Portuguese tactician is willing to offload them in the summer transfer window.
The list includes the likes of Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay and Daley Blind, according to the Mirror. The situation has alerted Arsenal as Blind has emerged as a transfer target for Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.
The Dutch international arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in the summer of 2014 and mainly featured in the defensive midfield position and also as left-back. However, Louis van Gaal fielded him in the heart of the back four alongside Chris Smalling in the 2015/16 season and he excelled in the centre-back position.
Mourinho has doubts over Blind's ability in the central defending position as the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager is yet to take a decision on him. Wenger is looking to add the ex-Ajax man to his squad this summer as the player's ability to play in multiple positions could benefit the north London club.
Blind is aware of the recent reports linking him with a move away from his current employers. The Dutchman is hoping to continue at United after admitting that he will fight to save his Old Trafford career.
"You might be looking for a certain statement [about my future], but I will just give my all under Mourinho. We will have to wait and see whether anything changes for me," Blind told NOS in Holland.
"I will just give my all and work hard. Mourinho is a manager who has achieved a lot and I am keen to work with him. I might not be as big as Pepe, but I think I have shown in the Premier League that I can hold my own defensively.
"We conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League and I think we got the most clean sheets. That's something to be proud of. I played nearly every game and that is a good feeling," he added.
