Manchester United Star Welcomes 'Terrific ' Ander Herrera
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has welcomed the £29m signing of Ander Herrera claiming that the Spaniard is a "terrific" player.
New manager Louis van Gaal's expected summer overhaul began last week with the signings of the former Athletic Bilbao star as well as Southampton defender Luke Shaw.
"I have played against him and he is a terrific player. The more quality we have, the better, and he is certainly right up there," the United star told Sky Sports.
"So I am sure he is looking forward to getting started and getting the first game under his belt and fitting in. We will certainly make him feel as welcome as we can
Carrick hopes these latest additions will help the Reds overcome last season's nightmare when they finished in seventh place in the Premier League.
"It's not a nice feeling when things don't go right. You give your best as everyone did, sometimes it just doesn't go for us and that was the case over too long a time really.
"You have dips and you expect to get over them quick -- and at times we showed that we were going to get over them -- and then just as results and performances were changing we took a step back again. That was very frustrating."
The midfielder believes the United squad have got what it takes to get back on top again and urged his team-mates not to replicate the same mistakes of the last campaign.
"Looking back it was a disappointing campaign, but we've got to learn from it. Never stop learning and take what we can. We've still certainly got enough quality in the squad anyway, regardless of who is coming in this summer, to be up there challenging again.
"I'm not going into this season any different to how I have any other. Whether you win or lose, I've said it before when we've won things, the next season you've got to start again, doing it all over again.
"Last season counts for nothing, for everyone. We go into this fresh and really positive and looking forward to a successful campaign."
