Manchester United: Teddy Sheringham presumes Red Devils will sign a striker this summer
Former Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham, who was speaking to 888sport.com, believes the Red Devils have the quality in their squad to challenge for the Premier League title this season, but has urged them to add a striker to their ranks.
Louis van Gaal brought the 20-time English champions back into the Champions League in his first season as manager at the club, following a seventh place finish in the 2013/14 campaign under former manager David Moyes.
The Dutch manager is keen to get United back to the top of the English game and began last summer with a £150m outlay in the transfer market, which included the record signing of Angel Di Maria, who has now confirmed his move to Paris Saint-Germain after failing to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League.
Van Gaal has continued the reconstruction of his team this summer, and has strengthened further with the signings of Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Sergio Romero.
Sheringham feels that the additions thus far this summer can aid the Red Devils' bid to win the Premier League, but has urged the club to continue their spending spree and add a striker to their ranks before the close of the summer transfer window.
The former United striker feels that signing a top quality forward is a no brainer for the club and is confident that it will make a difference to the squad and their prospects of challenging the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City for the title.
"Yes they can. They're making an awful lot of signings and there are still bits going on. I would presume there is still a striker coming in for Man United and I'd be very surprised if that doesn't happen. That could make all the difference," Sheringham told 888sport.com
