Manchester United Tempt Juventus With Club-Record £47.5m Bid for Arturo Vidal
Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their efforts in signing Juventus star Arturo Vidal, according to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Red Devils' new manager Louis van Gaal has made the Chilean international a top priority signing of the summer transfer window. The Old Trafford club are set to break their club-record transfer fee in landing the talented midfielder.
United are preparing a £47.5m bid in bringing Vidal to Old Trafford. The South American player will arrive in Turin on Monday after completing his holiday post the World Cup in Brazil.
Vidal's agent Fernando Felicevich will hold talks with Juventus and wants to place the offer on the table that was made by United for his client's signature. The Premier League giants have informed the Serie A winners to let them know of their decision regarding the latest proposal.
Van Gaal's side are ready to offer a four-year contract, which will see him earn £6.3m-a-year at Old Trafford. The midfielder is currently earning half the wages that United are planning to offer him to join them this summer.
The player's representative will inform Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta to match the English side's wage offer in order for Vidal to continue with the Old Lady. Should they fail to give Vidal an improved offer, Felicevich has asked Juventus to accept United's offer.
Juventus' new manager Massimiliano Allegri is still in the dark about whether Vidal will be a part of his plan for the next season. United's £47.5m bid will be hard for the Italian champions to turn down and they could let their player join Van Gaal's side in this summer's transfer window.
The potential sale of Vidal will help Juventus raise funds and Marotta will look to use those funds in bringing new players to the club. With Michael Carrick out of action for the next three months, the addition of Vidal will bolster United's midfield for the next season.
