Manchester United transfer news: Colombian forward Jeison Lucumi dreams of completing Old Trafford move
Lucumi played a key role in helping America of Cali achieve promotion in Colombia's first division.
Colombian forward Jeison Lucumi has revealed his dream of playing for Manchester United and remains hopeful of achieving it in the future.
The 22-year-old is currently with his native club America of Cali and helped his side get promoted to the first division – Categoria Primera A – last year. He joined his hometown club from Deportivo Aguablanca in 2014 and has been a regular for his current employers.
Lucumi's form for America of Cali has not gone unnoticed as he has already attracted interest from European clubs. He is an admirer of United's all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney and is also a fan of his compatriot, Jesse Lingard.
"My dream is to go to play for Manchester United and with God's help I'll achieve it. I follow Rooney, I watched him since I was very young, and now I like very much how Lingard plays," Lucumi told AS Colombia.
The forward was part of the Colombia Under-20 side that finished runners-up and lost the South American Under-20 championship to Argentina in 2015. He remains hopeful that his club form can draw interest from United manager Jose Mourinho. The attacker has been working hard to fulfil his dream of sealing a switch to Europe.
When asked if he has decided to leave America of Cali in the summer, he said: "I do not know anything about that. I hope to continue working hard to fulfill one of my dreams and that is to go to play in Europe."
Lucumi is already wanted by Colombian outfit and 2016 Copa Libertadores winners Atletico Nacional. In addition to this, he has offers from Portugal for his services. However, the Cali-born forward is not willing to take up the offer.
He has snubbed approaches from the clubs as he has his heart set on completing a move to Old Trafford and if he joins United in the summer, he would get a chance to play alongside Lingard.
