Where to watch live
Kick-off is at 7:45pm BST. Live coverage of the match will be available on BT Sport Europe.
Overview
The Champions League returns to Old Trafford after a gap of a season. United finished fourth in the last Premiere League campaign and will feature in the play-offs. They need to overcome the Belgium outfit to make it to the group stages.
United started the 2015/16 campaign on a positive note with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, followed by a similar result when they took on Aston Villa in the last match. Adnan Januzaj got his name on the scoresheet and he could start from the bench against Brugge.
Louis van Gaal will be hoping his side can maintain a third consecutive clean sheet in the midweek as that will help them when they travel to Belgium for the second leg. At the same time, the United manager will be looking for more goals from his side.
Meanwhile, Brugge sealed a 2-1 victory over Kortrijk in the last fixture. They sealed a place in the play-offs by defeating Panathinaikos 3-3 on aggregate, with an away goal, helping Michel Preud'homme's side progress further in the competition.
What managers say
Louis van Gaal: "Yes, I think when you win two times then you shall have a lot of confidence. But every match is difficult and Belgian teams can play very compactly, they can defend and a team always has a chance of winning. Like on [Friday], every team has a chance and if they score out of that chance then it shall be very difficult."
Michel Preud'homme: "Yes, I took Mourinho from Van Gaal. I had given the profiles of four candidates to the president. We looked at them and we decided to take Jose. "Of course, I was the one who proposed Jose to be the manager also after he came to the club. It's a good story. It was his first job as manager and after that he became the great Mourinho."
