Manchester United 1-2 Manchester City: Premier League as it happened
Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola renew hostilities in Manchester.
- Pep Guardiola's side maintain 100% start to the season with win at Old Trafford.
- Kevin de Bruyne and Kelechi Iheancho put City ahead after dominant opening 40 minutes.
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic pulled one back in final minutes of the first-half after Claudio Bravo error.
Uniteds 100% start to the season is over, City's continues. Pep Guardiola has drawn first blood against Jose Mourinho in Manchester and his side move clear at the top of the Premier League.
A sublime first 40 minutes from the away side, masterminded by the excellent Kevin de Bruyne, proved to be the difference. United pushed and pushed in the second half after Zlatan Ibrahimovic pulled one back, but on balance, it is a derseved three points for City.
Remember earlier I said Ibrahimovic was booked for the most blatant trip you'll see all season? Scratch that, Rooney has just topped it. Bravo (under pressure again) opts to try and turn the onrushing Rooney, managing it but has his ankles clipped for his trouble. It's a stupid challenge from the United skipper who perhaps should have been shown a yellow earlier in this contest.
United are screaming for a free kick when Bailly is felled on the edge of the D and then scream for a penalty when Rooney drives a cross in from the right that comes off Sagna. Mark Clatternburg waves play on however and City spring forward. It's sublime from De Bruyne, who cuts in from the right and drives a low effort towards the near post. Unbelievably, it comes off the inside of the post and rolls across the face of the goal before it is hacked away. This is chaos.
Rashford finds the back of the net! But it won't count! As we've seen so many times from the 18-year-old already, he cuts in menacingly from the inside left channel before opening room for the shot. His effort takes a deflection off Ibrahimovic who has wandered into the an offside position, guiding it into the far corner and it's a good shout from the linesman.
Oh dear, Bravo. Instead of clearing the ball, he opts to turn Ibrahimovic who is closing in on him. His touch is heavy, and it invites Rooney to close in on the loose ball too and in a bid to get their first, Bravo leaps in. It's a poor challenge and you feel if it took place anywhere else on the pitch, it would have been a foul and at least a yellow card.
City are slicing United apart and Kevin de Bruyne is running the show. The Belgian pulls three United players in before letting a shot go, only to be denied by the far post. United are don't react quick enough and with Daley Blind keeping him onside, Kelechi Iheanacho knocks home the reboud. City are in complete control.
City have started this game brilliantly and now they have their reward. It's not quite tika-taka this one; Otamendi launches a ball forward from the back and Iheanacho knocks it down to De Bruyne. His first touch allows him to break away easily from Daley Blind and left one-on-one with De Gea, he slots brilliantly into the bottom corner.
