Manchester United vs Middlesbrough, Capital One Cup 2015/16: Where to watch, preview, betting odds and possible XI
Manchester United will take on Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup clash at Old Trafford on 28 October, Wednesday.
Where to watch
Kick-off is at 8pm GMT. The Capital One Cup fixture between United and Middlesbrough will not be telecast in the UK.
Overview
United come into this fixture after a disappointing goalless draw against Manchester City in the derby clash at Old Trafford. Second-half substitute Jesse Lingard and defender Chris Smalling came close to scoring for the hosts in the final quarter of the match.
Louis van Gaal has seen his side without a win in the last two matches as they settled for a draw in both these fixtures. He would be hoping his side can seal a victory over the Championship outfit during the Capital One Cup tie.
In the third round of the competition, United defeated Ipswich Town 3-0 at home, where Andreas Pereira was on the scoresheet as he scored from the free-kick. He is likely to start in the round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
Middlesbrough enter this fixture after their 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton in the Championship tie. They were without a win in the last three matches prior to that fixture and also failed to score in those fixtures.
Aitor Karanka has a tough task to score against a well-organised United side, who have conceded only two goals in all competitions at Old Trafford this season. A victory for either side will help them progress to the quarter final of the Capital One Cup.
What managers say
Louis van Gaal: "It is one of the top clubs in the Championship so it is not so easy. I am very happy with the result. I am happy we are playing at home. We are travelling a lot so it is good to stay at home."
Aitor Karanka: "In all my time here we haven't had a lot of injuries, but we have been missing Stuani and we now have Albert as well with his ankle. I don't know how he will be for Wednesday. Adam Forshaw has also picked up an injury as well. We will have to wait and see over the next few days."
