Manchester United youngsters Tyler Reid and Joe Rothwell leave for Swansea and Oxford
KEY POINTS
- 18-year-old Reid joined from Arsenal in 2012.
- Rothwell was offered a new deal at the end of last season.
Manchester United youngster Tyler Reid has left the club to sign for Swansea City for an undisclosed fee with Joe Rothwell also departing for Oxford United. Reid, 18, who joined United from Arsenal's youth academy in 2012, represented the club's Under-18s last season, making a solitary appearance for Warren Joyce's Under-21 ranks.
The full-back told Swansea's official website: "I am really looking forward to a fresh challenge and getting started. I see a good opportunity to play first-team football with the development squad here.
"I see myself as a quick, strong and powerful player who likes to get forward. I hope I can offer something both in attack and defence. Swansea play good attractive football and I think that suits my style of play."
United have also confirmed the departure of midfielder Joe Rothwell. The 21-year-old, who called into the first-team squad by Louis van Gaal for a Premier League clash with Watford in November 2015, was offered a new deal by United in June, but has instead opted to sign for the League One club.
Rothwell will immediately head to Spain where his new side are based for their preseason training camp. Oxford boss Michael Appleton told the club's official website: "Joe is a really talented lad who we believe has a very bright future.
"He has played for all of the England age group teams and been around the first team at Old Trafford. He can play midfield or slightly further forward and he now gets a chance to get a run of games together and truly show what he can do."
Ashley Fletcher is another United academy graduate who could yet leave the club in the coming weeks despite being offered a new deal. The striker, who enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Barnsley last season, is now poised to join West Ham United, according to the Daily Mail.
