Mariah Carey is 'devastated' as James Packer dumped her 'out of nowhere'
The former couple were engaged for 10 months.
Mariah Carey is "devastated" after her billionaire fiancé James Packer "out of nowhere" ended their relationship. The We Belong Together singer was reportedly planning to marry the Australian business tycoon, but their relationship "imploded" after their vacation in Greece in September.
"The split has been devastating for Mariah [Carey]. She loved James [Packer] and was planning to marry him...She made life changes for this man to prepare for their future as husband and wife, even relocating to L.A., at James' request, so he could be closer to his children. Everything she has done over the past year is to prove how fully committed she is to their life together. She really wanted this to work. And then, completely out of the blue, it imploded," a source told E! News.
The 49-year-old businessman went on "some sort of outburst" when in Greece "which everyone heard", the source continued and claimed that Packer said, "I don't know if I can do this. I can barely take care of my own children."
The duo reportedly had scheduled a date to meet last week in Los Angeles "to talk through everything as adults", but days ahead of their meeting the songstress found out that Packer had dumped her that too via the media.
"Mariah and James never met up after that," the source said. "And they haven't spoken. The way the split news was handled was incredibly upsetting to her."
Following the split, a video allegedly showing Carey offering a lap dance to her backup dancer Brian Tanaka surfaced. Some reports have linked the two together while speculating that the pair's close bond caused Packer to split from Carey. According to HollywoodLife, the video was taken during her Vegas shows in June.
The E! News source, however, dismissed the claim and said that the two are longtime friends and have a "completely platonic" relationship. Tanaka has "been a supportive influence" in Carey's life over the past 10 years. "Right now they are just close friends," the source noted.
"I can't promise things won't develop between them one day, who knows. But right now, the stories out there are an exaggeration and they definitely feel like a convenient ploy to make this whole mess look like her [Carey's] fault," the source explained.
