Market round-up: Greek referendum uncertainty leaves FTSE 100 in the lurch
The referendum in Greece on Sunday 5 July and the neck and neck polls that show it could go either way left the FTSE 100 in the lurch as it trended slightly downward.
"Like Banquo's ghost, the spectre of the Greek referendum continues to haunt markets with the only certainty being the prospect of more turmoil whatever the outcome," said AJ Bell investment director Russ Mould.
"A vote for more austerity will almost certainly mean the end of the government while a no vote would force the other eurozone members to either come up with new debt proposals or find a way to expel Greece from the single currency."
Property companies such as British Land saw gains along with Land Securities Group.
The market lost -0.67% to close the week at 6,585.78. Its reaction to the Greek referendum will appear in the numbers early on Monday 6 July.
The Royal Bank of Scotland saw a sharp drop after reports that it may need to fork out $13bn (£8.3bn, €11.7bn) to resolve claims that it misled purchasers of mortgage-backed securities.
