Market round-up: Mining hit by copper on FTSE 100 as Chinese outlook remains uncertain
Value eroded from the FTSE 100 on 11 August after falling copper prices and continuing worries about China's demand for commodities took a bite out of mining companies. Glencore Plc saw its stock value slashed by -7.26%, making it the biggest faller on the stock exchange. The mining giant was followed by BHP Billiton and Anglo American in the top five.
Bookmaker Ladbrokes warned investors they will need to sit tight until 2017 before they will see "any increase in profitability", said AJ Bell investment director Russ Mould. "The bookmaker slashed its first half dividend after headline pre-tax profits tumbled by nearly 44%.
"Ladbrokes has seen some encouraging customer trends and believes the proposed merger with Coral represents an exciting opportunity. But completion of the deal is some way off and Ladbrokes needs to reset the business and invest and do so quickly."
Overall, the FTSE 100 fell -1.06% to finish the day at 6,664.54p. Shares of Coca-Cola HBC AG gained +1.51% after the stock was downgraded to "sell" on 5 August by Goldman Sachs.
