Mass Effect Andromeda trailer teases N7 Day reveal with new 'initiative'
The teaser hints that the next adventure takes place 'in a future that begins 600 years from where we stand'.
Electronic Arts and Bioware have released a brand new teaser trailer for its highly-anticipated sci-fi RPG, Mass Effect Andromeda, inviting fans to join the "Andromeda Initiative". The video teases that more information about the game will be revealed on 7 November, fondly known among Mass Effect fans as N7 Day.
Taking one last glimpse at planet Earth, the video hints that the next adventure takes place "in a future that begins 600 years from where we stand".
It also asks fans to join the Initiative – an in-universe themed mailing list where "registered recruits will be among the first contacted to receive critical mission information, special training opportunities, and will be eligible for reward upon program completion".
While the "critical mission information" could mean new updates on the game's development and details on features, "special training opportunities" could possibly be referencing an upcoming beta. However, the developer has not confirmed or provided specific details on these references.
"For us this planet is home," the narrator says. "It's protected us, challenged us and provided us the foundation to become galactic citizens. But the time has come to prepare ourselves for a future beyond the Milky Way; a future that begins 600 years from where we stand in a time and place, among unknown stars, and unseen dangers."
Although the video does not provide a lot of new information about the upcoming title, it does reiterate the fact that the game does take place in a brand new galaxy for fans to explore and experience.
Originally set to launch in 2016, EA decided earlier this year to push back the sequel's release to its fourth quarter between January and March 2017. In May, BioWare confirmed that the game would ship sometime in "early 2017" to "make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be."
At Sony's PlayStation meeting in September, fans were given the first brief glimpse of gameplay from the upcoming game that showed protagonist Ryder walking and squadmates making their way through an alien environment.
BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn also revealed at the time that the developer will showcase a brand new Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer on N7 Day and "officially open the doors to the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe".
Mass Effect: Andromeda is set to release in Spring 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
