A small plane crashed into a house on Sunday (28 June) evening, killing three people on board the aircraft.

The residents of the house however managed to flee as fire engulfed the home, AP reported.

Jim Peters of the Federal Aviation Administration said the Beechcraft BE36 crashed into the house after taking off from the Lancaster Airport in Pennsylvania towards Norwood Memorial Airport in Massachusetts.

State police spokesman Dave Procopio said two adults and a juvenile on board the plane were killed. It took firemen three hours to put the blaze out.

The identities of the dead will not be released until family members have been notified, Peters said.
