Megan Thee Stallion Wants To Be 'The Mariah of Summer' and Fans Fire Back: 'We Already Have One'
Fans named Katy Perry, Zara Larsson and Rihanna as contenders for the title

Megan Thee Stallion has declared she wants summer to become synonymous with her name as Christmas is with Mariah Carey, but the ambitious plan has already divided fans online, with some saying, 'we already have one.'
The Grammy-winning rapper revealed the goal in a new InStyle cover interview, saying she wants people to think of her the moment summer begins.
'I want to be the Mariah of Summer,' Megan said, explaining her admiration for Carey's annual association with Christmas. She pointed to 21 June, the date she wants to claim, as the point when she wants to be associated with summer.

“I love Mariah Carey. Mariah is Christmas. As soon as November starts, we just hear Mariah hit that high note. Boom. That’s her s**t. Me, June 21st. As soon as summer starts, boom, it’s Megan. I’m not playing.”… pic.twitter.com/LJ2oybySiR
'Mariah is Christmas. As soon as November starts, we just hear Mariah hit that high note. Boom. That's her sh*t. Me, June 21st. As soon as summer starts, boom, it's Megan,' she said. 'I'm not playing.'
According to InStyle, Megan's ambition is part of a broader plan to build what she calls the 'Hot Girl Universe,' extending the identity she has developed around her music, businesses and fanbase.
The concept grew from 'Hot Girl Summer,' a phrase Megan popularised in 2019.
It later became the title of her collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign, while the branding has since expanded into ventures including swimwear, fragrance and pet products.
Megan also launched the Hot Girl Summer Tour in 2024, giving the phrase a live entertainment identity. Her latest plans arrive as she prepares for a new album featuring the return of her Tina Snow alter ego.
Fans Fire Back at Megan Thee Stallion's Summer Goal
Megan's ambition quickly prompted a mixed response from social media users, with some arguing that the title of summer icon already belongs to other artists.
'Gurl I love you but the queen of summer still remains Katy Perry,' one commenter wrote, while another pushed back on the idea by saying, 'but we already have "the Mariah of summer,"' alongside a Sabrina Carpenter video.

Other fans named Zara Larsson, pointing to songs including 'Lush Life' and 'Midnight Sun' as evidence that she already has a claim to the seasonal title.

Katy Perry and Rihanna were also mentioned, with one commenter arguing that their summer hits, including Rihanna's 'We Found Love,' had become difficult to escape during the season.
Some Fans Defend Megan's 'Hot Girl Summer' Legacy
Not everyone rejected Megan's claim. Some commenters argued that she had already earned a strong association with summer through the 'Hot Girl Summer' era.
Another said Megan had been 'that b*tch of the summer' since the era surrounding 'Big Ole Freak,' 'Cognac Queen' and the Tina Snow EP.
she already is lmao, they call it hot girl summer for a reason

One commenter argued that Carey's Christmas association was built over decades of music and branding, suggesting Megan would need more than the existing 'Hot Girl Summer' phrase to create a comparable legacy.
The mixed response also showed how contested the idea of a single artist being synonymous with summer can be. Megan's comments suggest she is aiming for exactly that kind of lasting cultural association, rather than simply another seasonal hit.
Her stated goal is to make 21 June the point when her summer identity arrives each year, with the wider 'Hot Girl Universe' providing the branding behind it.
